Shipping charges are quoted for orders placed and paid for on the day of ordering. Shipping live plants across Canada requires careful preparation and boxing. Shipping charges do not take into account the staff labour it takes to prepare your order prior to shipping (an average 6 plant order takes 1 hour to prepare). Although we would love to offer free shipping (like Amazon or the "Corporate Giant") we are not shipping a shirt in a bubble envelope. We advise that the posted shipping charges may change at any time to reflect increased fuel surcharges etc. Additions to an already placed order(s) may require additional shipping charges. We ship FedEx-Ground on 95% of our orders but reserve the right to ship orders under $125.00 by Canada Post- Expedited. 

It is not our intention to make money on shipping charges. Any customer is welcome to contact us after they receive their order to enquire on the actual cost of shipping their order. Differences over $10.00 (in favour of the customer) will gladly be refunded if requested. 

 All hostas are bare-rooted and have the roots wrapped in moist paper towel. The moist paper towel is placed inside a plastic bag and then the complete plant is "florist" wrapped in Kraft paper before being carefully boxed. We use recycled shredded paper for packing...please open your package carefully in an area were the shredded paper can be easily cleaned up. We wrap and package our shipments so they will arrive to you ready to be planted...even if the plants are in transit for 7+ days. 

 Individual leaves may be removed to fit into our shipping boxes. We take every care to ensure your plants arrive in pristine shape

 Please read the following in it's entirety before placing your order. Confirmation that you have read this information may be required to complete your order. 


 Mail-orders for 2022 will be accepted from Nov 12, 2021- April 15, 2022 

*Website sales may close earlier than April 15th if we reach our maximum order capacity of 100 orders.

 (this order level is 160 orders less than we received before we closed our website last season).

Hosta Choice Gardens is an Ontario based seasonal specialty nursery whose inventory and gardens are not forced early to ship to the masses. We regret that we cannot ship orders earlier to warmer areas of Canada. Due to the effects of global warming we are finding that our Spring weather in Southwestern Ontario is anything but consistent. We know that all areas of Canada are adjusting to climate change and appreciate your understanding that we will be commencing our shipping later (May 30th) than in the last 24 years. At Hosta Choice Gardens we want to be able to send you a quality product. Sending you hostas that are just barely out of dormancy is not sending a quality product.  


 Orders placed from November 11, 2021 & April 15, 2022 will be shipped between:

May 30th - July 15th, 2022.

Orders are not necessarily shipped in the order they are received.

Your order may have selections that emerge at different times and are specific to the particular hosta species. Once all your selections are ready they will have their roots cleaned and then be wrapped, boxed and shipped.

Orders are however pulled/reserved in the order that they are received.

 Fuller pots go to the early-birds as do the best divisions. We remove all mail-order potted inventory from our sales floor before we open our nursery to walk-in customers.

Yes, we keep mentioning shipping between May 30th & July 15th, 2022.

The reason we keep mentioning it is because we do not guarantee a specific shipping date for any order we receive. Because of the nature of shipping live perennials we cannot possibly get 100 orders out in 1 week.

By ordering from Hosta Choice Gardens you agree to receiving your order at any time during our above noted shipping period.


PLEASE ensure that you complete a customer profile when you place your order. All correspondences for mail-order clients should be placed thru your specific order portal. This will ensure said correspondence is all in one place so that we can serve you better and get your order out to you correctly. We will advise you of the progress of your order thru your order portal not our regular email.

Our order portal will send you notices once your order is received. 


Here's a brief description of the notices you may receive:


Awaiting Payment- we have received your order but stock cannot be reserved until we receive your e-transfer or cheque.

Awaiting Fulfillment- we have received your order and payment. Stock numbers have been reduced to account for your order. This does not mean your order is going to be shipped at this time. Winter losses and cancelled orders from our growers are beyond our control. We will contact you for instructions and/or alternate choices if a variety in your order is unavailable to be shipped.

Awaiting Shipment- your order has been washed, dried, prepared and boxed. The order will be shipped in the next 1-3 days. Once FedEx receives/picks up your order you will receive a shipping notice to your email. Once you receive a notice from FedEx you will be given the opportunity to re-direct you shipment to a different address (perhaps work) or offer additional delivery instructions. 

Shipped- your order has been received by FedEx. You should have (or will shortly) receive notification with regards to an expected delivery date. Once FedEx drops the package off at your doorstep you are responsible for ensuring it is not stolen from the drop-off location. If you would like to ensure that your order/package is not just left at your door you must select (and pay for) a "Signature Request' delivery when you place your order with us. You will find that opportunity just under our logo on the left-hand side of our "Home" page.

Completed- A few days have gone by since FedEx has advised us that your package has been delivered. We have marked your order as completed. If you have any questions or concerns about your order you can still contact us thru your customer profile/order portal. We thank you for your business and appreciate that you have given us the opportunity to be part of your 2022 gardening plans. 


From July 15th - August 15th we must focus on clients visiting our retail location.
